I have had a Boston's Guide on my bookshelf for years, but it was lacking two things--modern drinks and recipes sorted by alcohol type.  We don't tend to keep more than ten bottles on hand, so looking up recipes by key ingredient is a must for me--especially during a busy party when I'd rather be chatting.

On Mother's Day, I found this delightful little book called DRINKOLOGY.  At first, I put it back, but the book kept calling my name.  Unsure on if it was really as great as it looked from the sealed outside, I hesitated spending the $15.  In the end, my husband snatched it up and bought it to hand to me later.  I am so glad he did!

DRINKOLOGY: The Art And Science Of The Cocktail tackles liquid refreshment in a manner that would make Alton Brown proud.  This book delves beyond the recipes by offering personal commentary on each and every drink, both old and new.  A complex guide to bar essentials is your introduction into the world of DRINKOLOGY; recipes follow from that point on and are broken down by key ingredient.  (Beer, Brandy, Champagne, Gin, Liqueurs, Rum, Tequila, Vodka, Whiskey, Wine, Frozen & Blended Drinks, Hot Drinks, Punches & Eggnogs, and Nonalcoholic Mixed Drinks.)  The book also contains a glossary of terms, a list of the Drinkology taste-testers' favorites, and then an alphabetical listing of all the drink recipes found within this neat little book.

I am so thrilled my husband opted to ignore my indecision.  I have read DRINKOLOGY from cover to cover and found myself fascinated with every word.  My Mr. Boston's guide has been shoved aside, as I don't see any need to refer to it ever again!
