CONSIDER THE LOBSTER... I often do just that, only I'm considering him with a little butter and lemon!  In this case, David Foster Wallace contemplates the good and bad in many topics and shares his thoughts in this witty collection of ten essays.

I'm going to share a few of my favorites.  First, "Big Red Son" tackles the rather seedy world of adult videos.  Not sure what to expect, I dove in to a rather shocking statistic involving self-castration.  This led into the Annual AVN (Adult Video News) Awards.  I learned a lot after reading what I truly think is a rather sad little commentary, especially regarding suicide rates among porn stars.

"The View From Mrs. Thompson's" offers a peek into days following September 11th, but from a Midwesterner's point of view.  There is an awful lot of truth in this essay!

"How Tracy Austin Broke My Heart" is perhaps the funniest of all.  We've all waited for our idol's "autobiography" to hit store shelves.  For that reason, I understand what the author felt as his cherished athlete's story turned into an over-written piece of fluff.  This essay will have you saying "I know exactly how you feel!"

Finally, "Consider The Lobster" takes the reader to the popular Maine event in which the focus is on that wonderful delicacy called lobster!  "Most of us have been in supermarkets or restaurants that feature tanks of live lobsters, from which you can pick out your supper while it watches you point."  I'm still snickering over this line!

This is only a snippet of the treasures that await.  Fight the winter blues with this collection of honest, humorous essays.  Now, that I've finished it, I do think I am in the mood for a little lobster meat!  Scrumptious!
