THE STRANGELING is one of two fantasy novels written
by Saskia Walker, a noted contributor to the fantasy and paranormal
romance genre. She is also well known for her contemporary romance
novels as well as novellas that have strong ties to erotica literature.
A world traveler, Ms. Walker uses her extensive education in art
history, literature and visual arts as well as her life experiences as
strong influences on her stories. At this point in time she resides in
Great Britain.
THE STRANGELING tells the story of an ancient prophecy that predicts the
resurrection of two mercenary armies that 100 years after their demise
in a fight against each other will rise again and march as one in unison
to take the world as theirs. The only way for them to be stopped is for
a maiden who carries the summer within her to mate with a faithful seer
and release her power at the gates of Hades on the eve of Samhain.
Maerose is the unwilling participant in this vision who is suddenly
thrust into her destiny when being kidnapped by a former faithful named
Veldor who now wants to raise the army of the undead for his own
sinister goals. In his way stands Bron who seeks to fulfill the prophecy
as the elders of the faith intended, but who is hampered by a lack of
ultimate knowledge and scruples that prevent him from simply taking that
which he wants.
THE STRANGELING is a story that interweaves pagan lore with the unlikely
romance of two individuals brought together by an unwavering destiny.
Behind the poetic descriptions of budding love and lust lies an
exploration of duty versus desire which at times - but not always -
coincide. Ms. Walker succeeds in showing the two sides of the coin of
faith - selfless and self serving - as she showcases the paths of Veldor
and Bron. This is a short novel that packs a big punch, but because of
the graphic love scenes it is best enjoyed by adults only.
