The Crimean War was the first war to ever be photographed.  Photos from that war made their way to newspapers and into English homes.  While only two years in duration, the toll wreaked on the soldier was devastating. William Fitch Minstead, the sixth Earl of Ackerman, still has nightmares over his experiences in the war.

When Hilary Compton arrives unannounced at Fitch's home, he learns that he has a nine- year-old daughter, Lizzie, born to Elizabeth Bradstreet, Fitch's lover, after his departure for the Crimea.  Now, as the Earl of Ackerman, he is
entranced by his daughter and sees in Hilary a way to protect Lizzie.  He and Hilary are drawn to each other and Fitch sets out to woo her.

I love a good historical story and just had to refresh my memory about the Crimean War. After looking up some information, it was easy to understand why Fitch had bad memories of the war.  There were not a lot of characters introduced in the story, but every one of them contributed a vital part of the story. HE SAID NOW is a book that lovers of historical romance will want to read over and over again.
