Tara Stone is a successful writer working on her latest book when dreams start to invade her nights and stop her writing during the day. She cannot get the images out of her mind. Each builds on the last, developing into what she eventually realizes is the story of her ancestors, a story she hasn’t heard since she was a young child sitting on her grandmother’s knee. Why the stories are ruling her dreams suddenly, she isn’t sure, but she does know that unless she finds the answer, she might never finish her novel. So she heads back home to Louisiana to a family she loves but a past she has been trying to escape from for a long time. Once there, she finds her dreams of the dark past might actually help her have a bright future.

STORMS OF DESTINY starts slow but picks up the pace and then runs helter skelter to the end. There is always something happening to someone. There are a lot of stories told, pasts revisited and peaces made. Not just in the case of Tara but most of the characters. While this added to the depth of the book, it could also be confusing at times. I found myself referring to previous chapters to make sure I’d got the whos, whys and wherefores right.

My only ‘complaint’ would be there is a "thriller" element to the book. It comes in late and I don’t know if it is necessary. It did allow the author to tie everything up in a neat bow but I’m not sure if as a reader that’s what I wanted. Saying that, I didn’t see anything coming and I did enjoy the book.
