Table manners, tableware, table settings--no one really seems to remember how a table should be set.  I had a little experience as a child thanks to my mom, so I have a basic understanding of things.  Even then, there are still points that I have forgotten.  When I go into a restaurant and find two forks, a spoon and a knife all to the right side of the plate on top of the napkin, I realize that few know the actual etiquette involved.

Suzanne von Drachenfels' book, THE ART OF THE TABLE, is a comprehensive and informative guide into setting the table, table manners, and even a highly detailed breakdown into the different plates, bowls, forks, knives, spoons, utensils, cups, and glasses.  There isn't a thing missing from this guide.

Inside this book, you'll find sections on:  Dining fundamentals, dinnerware, flatware, stemware, table linens, serving techniques, dining finesse, menu plans, and table manners.

I learned a lot as I was reading this book.  Some of the more basic things were common knowledge to me, but there are a few surprises.  For example, which contains more caffeine tea or coffee?  I thought I knew that answer, but I was wrong.

THE ART OF THE TABLE offers a unique look at dining today as well as dining in the past.  With its equal blend of history and present day dining, there is something for everyone waiting inside the pages.
