TURTLE DOLPHIN DREAMS may well be on its way to becoming the book of its kind for this decade. Marian K. Volkman, author and voice of the narrator in this book, has not only written a work that at once is both simple and brilliant, but tells the story in the most wonderful, calming way.

Almost at once the reader feels a sense of quietness and comfort while learning from the narrator that she is merely the voice of the turtle, the true storyteller here. The turtle is patient with the reader, explaining the concepts of dreaming, inter-species communication, and willingness to accept the differences among the species, even the Two Legs (humans).

On the surface, TURTLE DOLPHIN DREAMS could be read to or by children who would be delighted with the concepts of being able to communicate and understand our animal cohabitants on the planet. Perhaps that is point number one right there—that innocence and imagination are what grown people lack to make the reality of the thought come true. On another level, the reader can begin to see some all-too-human attributes through the eyes of the patient and wise turtle.

In this single sentence from Part I, the book's premise is concisely put: “For those of you with a fascination with the idea of encountering strange and different races from other planets and attempting communication with them, we invite you to look upon similar fascinating challenges and possibilities with your planet-mates.” p.13

I recommend this book for young and old alike. It can be read and re-read again and again, and I believe it will always be a different experience for the reader.
