After her husband dies at the hands of a crazed stalker, Rebecca Lorenzo leaves Los Angeles and returns to Freemont, Oregon. Freemont is where Rebecca grew up; it is also where Rebecca met her movie star husband, August Lorenzo, after accepting a spot as an extra in his film. Rebecca has her plan in place. She's renting the house where she and August met during filming. She's going to secure that house so that a sequel can be made and then she'll have enough money to buy a place of her own. Both Rebecca and her daughter need the change of pace. Dr. Mark Simons owns the Victorian house that Rebecca desires. Unfortunately, Mark has his own plans for the house. He wants to turn it into a halfway house. As hard as it is to turn Rebecca down, Mark realizes he cannot give up his dream. As Mark and Rebecca get to know each other, romance seems to be a certainty. However, danger seems to lurk in the shadows as Mark begins receiving threats and Rebecca finds herself questioning if she can allow herself to love again. A HOUSE DIVIDED is labeled as an inspirational romance. Sydell Voeller does a great job tackling faith without being preachy. A HOUSE DIVIDED is a good read, but I can't say it is an unforgettable one. Therefore, my hesitation comes with the steep price of Five Star books. $26 seems awfully high for an unknown author. Though this is offered as a hardcover, I can't see myself paying $26 plus shipping for a book that I find good but not outstanding. I also know that bookstores in my area add on a $10 charge for special orders bringing the price to almost $40, and I doubt many would want to shell out that much money. |
