After being beaten by her husband, Carlo, Cassandra Donatelli went to a shelter and thought it safe to leave after securing a restraining order and taking self-defense training.  However, the brute showed up at her new apartment beating her badly and causing her to fall down a flight of stairs.  She ended up in the hospital, losing her unborn baby, and receiving news that she may never conceive again!    After being released from the hospital, Cassandra knew there was only one way to escape Carlo and his powerful family.     She faked her death and fled to a tourist town in Arizona called Tombstone.  Here she created a new identity for herself Callie Donovan.  

While in Tombstone strange things began to happen.   Callie would see and hear things from the past.   She was visiting a shop where the owner showed her a picture of someone that looked just like her in a dress they still had on display.    Callie tried on the dress and stood in front of a cheval looking glass only to pass out.    When she awoke she was in a dress shop in the year 1898! Callie panicked and ran into the street and would have been trampled by a team of horses if it weren’t for a man knocking her out of the way and rendering her unconscious in the process.

Callie awoke in Rose Flanagan’s Boarding house where she was invited to live in exchange for help in running the place.  She soon met several people that would change her life.  Most important of all was Marshal Jack MacCafferty.    It wasn’t long before she was totally in love with him, but knew he could never return her love. 

Meanwhile, Carlo, never finding a body, wasn’t convinced of Cassandra’s death and hired a detective who located her in Tombstone Arizona.  It wasn’t long before Carlo and his goons descended upon the historical town in search of his runaway wife.

Callie, kept in mind that soon she must return to her time, but she was so happy and settled in the old Tombstone she soon loss sight of the need to return until Rose her dear friend came down with pneumonia!   Callie knew she must return to her time to retrieve the needed medicines or Rose would surely die!

Will Callie return to her own time only to fall into the clutches of Carlo?  Will she return to the past or stay in the present?  Will she ever find the love and happiness that she craves?   To discover the answers to these questions and more read A PLACE IN TIME!

Ms. Vertrees has penned a novel of excitement and romance.  I found myself feeling as though I, too, were a citizen in the 1890’s Arizona Territory.   I quickly bonded with the characters feeling their pain and joy!   If you love a good romance or time travel then A PLACE IN TIME is a must read!
