Right from the time she was a little girl, Fatima knew she was destined to do battle. The only sure way was to join the all male Warriors of the Khamsin. This was forbidden and if she could persuade the clan to change its rules, would mean she would have to be Guardian to Tarik, the son of the current Sheikh, and who was destined to be the next Sheikh. The male members of the Khamsin clan were opposed to such a move.
Could Fatima overcome the tribal taboos and become a Warrior, and if so, would she agree to become Guardian to Tarik who wanted nothing more than for her to share his bed? In an Islamic camp, women were destined to be cooks and mothers only.
I found THE SWORD AND THE SHEATH to be an easy read, and having traveled in some Islamic countries, could understand the taboos inherent in that society. The reader is warned that there are some portions of the book which might offend one’s senses.
