Due to her husband's lack of spending control, Materena Mahi walks into his place of employment and asks them to give her his pay.  The problem is he had specifically forbidden her to do so.  He walks out on her on the same day she discovers she is pregnant.  In order to support both her son and her unborn daughter, Materena takes a job as a professional cleaner.  When her daughter comes into the world, Materena is not prepared for the difficulties that follow.

Materena's daughter, Leilani, seems to be a handful from the day she is born.  Materena finds herself struggling to become close to her second child, a child who is determined to live her own life in her own way.  However, Materena's nature as a woman who loves to listen and share her unique wisdom will shape the relationship to come.

FRANGIPANI is packed with tremendously vivid detail of the culture and scenery found in Tahiti.  The setting comes alive and draws the reader into the story.  The customs will fascinate and often surprise readers.  Celestine Vaite is an amazing storyteller.
