Governments across the world make a startling announcement—a giant meteorite is heading for earth and will most likely kill everyone on the globe. You have six weeks—how will you spend your time? About ten hours are left and a young college graduate realizes he wants to make amends with his former girlfriend and spend their final hours together. With his family’s hesitant blessings, he heads off on a three-hour drive through a world gone mad, hoping to reach his girlfriend in time. IT’S ONLY TEMPORARY is instantly mesmerizing. The story can be a little bizarre at times—the character grabs some pot before he leaves, so some of his trip is influenced by the pot he is smoking, but with ten hours left who wouldn’t be on drugs or heavily drinking? This only adds realism to Sean’s quest. I think Eric Shapiro has done an outstanding job portraying the life of a few people when they know the clock is ticking, and life, as they know it, is about to end. IT’S ONLY TEMPORARY is an imaginative and absorbing piece of fiction that I can heartily recommend to anyone looking for a unique change of pace.
