Shelly Holmes has been investigating the paranormal for her years and now she may face her most difficult case. Arielle Blaylock has been suffering from terrible nightmares that have her father worried about her. Shannon’s novel is a battle of good versus evil and about Arielle’s struggle with coming of age. Luke and Seth are battling against one another from Arielle’s love. Arielle’s father is struggling with Arielle following in her dead mother’s footsteps. Arielle’s father hires Shelly Holmes to protect her. A hint of attraction between Ethan and Shelly is faintly apparent. What must Shelly do to protect Arielle during this difficult time in her life? Through out the book, there are werewolves, shape shifters, cats, and other creatures of the night. Which ones can Arielle trust? She is attracted to two men, how can she choose? Also, passages from the Book of the Dead, references to Cleopatra, Egyptian gods and goddesses, séances, and Arielle’s dead mother are intertwined within the pages of the story. Shannon, the author, has a well-developed storyline. However, I found the book difficult to read. This book was my first experience with the paranormal romance genre. Although I am an avid reader of fantasy, the paranormal romance genre was not a good fit for my taste. Also, the text focused much attention to the pleasures of the flesh. The author did a fine job of describing the carnal desires of her characters. For the paranormal romance fan, Shannon has written some other books: The Trelayne Inheritance, The Wolf of Haskell Hall, and Heaven’s Rogue. |
