While Laura Dunbar loves her husband, Curt, his controlling ways are beginning to trouble her. Her marriage is on the rocks, but she is uncertain what to do next. When she receives a letter from the daughter she gave up almost thirty years ago, she feels compelled to meet with the woman, Jennifer Lang. Unfortunately, she must do so in secret. She promised her husband before they married that she would never contact or accept contact from her child, nor would they ever tell their children about their half-sibling. It doesn’t take long before her husband learns the truth. Not only has Laura made contact with Jennifer, but she has also met with the birth father, Gary, at Jennifer’s request. Curt is outraged and forbids Laura to mention Jennifer’s name. Laura’s two children are not certain how to react to sudden news that they have an older sister. Laura realizes that she cannot let her husband and children dictate her life. Laura is forced to choose what path her life will now take. For me, PublishAmerica books can be hit or miss. I guess the biggest problem I have with them is usually the lack of editing before they go to print. I am pleased to say that THE RED SEA PLACE reached far beyond my expectations. Shirley Schooler offers a gripping novel that tugs at your heartstrings. Laura’s growth throughout the book is perfectly handled, well written, and satisfying. I am interested to see what happens next, and hope that the author will consider dishing out another glimpse into Laura’s life.
