Despite her college degree, Cornelia Brown believes she is exactly where she needs to be--manager of Cafe Dora, a homey Philadelphia coffee house.  Cornelia's life changes when a Cary Grant look-alike, Martin Grace, walks into her shop and sweeps her off her feet.  Ever a fan of The Philadelphia Story, Cornelia is happily surprised at the turn of events in her life.  However, the true change is only beginning.

Miles away, an eleven-year-old girl, Clare Hobbes, carries on with her facade.  Her mother is slowly slipping into the grasp of some mental ailment.  When Clare's mother drops her off on the side of the road before disappearing, Clare is forced to find her absentee father--Martin.

Having not been told that Martin is a father, Cornelia finds her passion for this man dwindling.  She takes Clare into her home and heart ready to make the most of the holiday season.  When Cornelia's brother-in-law surprises them both with an unplanned visit, Clare talks Teo into staying.  Cornelia finds herself sharing her home for the holiday with both Clare and Teo.  Together, Teo, Cornelia and Clare discover what is truly important in life.

LOVE WALKED IN is a truly mesmerizing debut.  Marisa de los Santos breathes life into what could be a tragic story.  It is impossible not to feel a range of emotions while reading this poignant novel.  Marisa de los Santos is an award-winning poet and her skill with words shines through each and every paragraph!

I only hope that Cornelia will return as the ending really cannot be perceived as an ending at all, at least not by this reader.  Perhaps it is a new beginning?  You must read the book to find out exactly what I mean.  You will be glad you did!
