Lucas
Davenport is a troubleshooter for the state of Minnesota. He clears up
potentially embarrassing cases for the governor, especially during
election time. In HIDDEN PREY, a Russian sailor is murdered. The
case is so politically sensitive that the Russians send in their own
cop.
Lucas
has been warned that this Russian agency trains their people to stop at
nothing. Rumors abound that the Russian cop, a woman, had been involved
in an affair with a local officer, and then he turns up dead. No one is
happy with the way the investigation is going, including Lucas.
Some
writers try to keep the reader interested by creating mounds of red
herrings, John Sandford follows suit, but his really work. Had they not
been included I doubt that the story would have worked as well. The
ending may not please all readers, mainly because it’s a real life
ending. Not all of the strings are tied up nice and neat. This
leaves it open for future installments! Mr. Sandford is a native of Minnesota. All of the towns and people are described realistically. This adds a lot to his stories, making them unforgettable reads.
