A few years ago, my brother was diagnosed (reluctantly by our long-time family doctor) as having Diabetes.  Because there is absolutely no family history of this condition, it took us all by surprise.  More so, because he was an adult and Type 1 was the diagnosis--insulin was a necessity to keep his sugar levels in check.

Since then, the rest of the family has been tested and all of us are fine, but it weighs in the back of my mind--how did he become type 1.  It wasn't until my own yearly exam that my doctor pointed out that a rare number can get a virus that attacks the pancreas.  Dr. Anne Peters, director of the University of Southern California's clinical diabetes programs, goes into the reasoning in a little more depth than my own doctor had time to do that day.

CONQUERING DIABETES does offer an intense look at managing your diabetes--both type 1 and type 2.  She begins by helping you to understand Diabetes/the diagnosis and proceeds into prevention and management.  Within the book are extremely helpful meal plans, exercise logs and information on common medications.

If you have diabetes or know of someone who does, CONQUERING DIABETES offers a slew of useful information.  I think it is a great book to keep on hand!
