Family secrets are slowly dragged to light in this twisting and turning mystery novel. As Paavo and Angie circumnavigate the twists and turns of their relationship, they are drawn into a web of deceit over thirty years old. Innocently, Angie takes an antique brooch, a gift from Paavo, to a jeweler to be fixed and dead bodies start piling up as the brooch disappears. What is the secret of this brooch and how is it connected to Paavo and his family? And what do the Russian Mafia, Finnish samizdat, and the FBI have to do with this mess? There are clues every where, from the antique brooch to the dusty files of the FBI.

This was an amusing romp. I did not see a lot of culinary evidence, except for two recipes in the back that I will be trying soon, but I did not miss it! The plot kept me guessing until about three-fourths of the way through. Even with this, I thoroughly enjoyed it! The twists were a wild ride and kept me reading until I finished the book in one gulp. I enjoyed the characters of Paavo and Angie, finding their love for each other quite endearing. The supporting cast, including Paavo’s dead sister who had an important role, added to the cast and brought the story to life.
