Detective Lindsay Boxer is set to go out for an afternoon of yummy treats and maybe some shopping with the newest member of the Women’s Murder Club, Attorney Yuki Castellano.  Yuki’s mother, Keiko, promises it is her treat, but Yuki knows a lecture about finding a suitable husband will be included free of charge.  Tragedy strikes when Keiko collapses.

At San Francisco Municipal Hospital, Yuki and Lindsay learn that Keiko has had a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) but should recover nicely.  Lindsay returns home thinking all is well.  Later, Keiko dies unexpectedly.

Lindsay learns that the hospital is about to be sued for an absurdly high number of wrongful deaths.  Patients seem to be dropping like flies after being given incorrect medications.  Keiko is another victim on the list.  Lindsay promises to do all she can, but another case is vying for her attention.

In the city, young girls are being drugged, possibly raped and then suffocated.  After death, they are dressed to the nines and posed in ritzy cars.  Lindsay wants to put an end to the long growing list of murder victims—the “Car Girls.”

With two cases eating up her every moment, Lindsay barely has time to think about her absent lover.  However, will the pressure of her job and personal life take too much of a toll?  Can she find both killers before another victim is taken?

THE 5TH HORSEMAN is another stunning entry into James Patterson’s long line of chilling suspense novels.  For those who haven’t delved into the Women’s Murder Club series, you are missing a treat.  The writing is crisp and enticing, and the group members seem to be long time friends.  Their personalities shine thanks to Mr. Patterson’s skill.  Choosing a female writing partner only helps to turn these characters into real-life women—women with whom you’d know you could easily share part of your life.
