After a small town is evacuated by what appears to be the National Guard, that same town explodes leaving nothing but a vast wasteland behind.  Alex Cross is pulled from a visit with his significant other, Jamilla Hughes, to help investigate the devastation.

Soon Alex learns that a long time nemesis, The Weasel, has resurfaced.  But that is just the tip of the iceberg.  Another formidable opponent has returned, and this time The Wolf is teaming up with The Weasel to make sure he doesn’t lose.

No deadline is set, but The Wolf’s demands are clear.  A little over two billion dollars must be handed over or New York, London, Washington, and Frankfurt will face the worst disasters in history.  The clock is ticking, no one knows exactly where or how, but The Wolf is determined to make it impossible for Alex to win.  Alex’s only option is to figure out just who The Wolf really is…

Every time I pick up a James Patterson novel, I cannot imagine it being better than the last.  Once again, the author blew me out of my seat.  Teaming up two madmen, each has played an integral part in past Alex Cross books, and then putting them completely in the driver’s seat was brilliant--scary, but brilliant.  Alex faces his toughest challenge to date because he is torn.  The case is integral, but he just lost full custody of his son, Alex Jr., because of his dedication to his job and long hours.  He knows how much his family means to him, more than his job, but the fate of the world lies in his hands.  Those are tough shoes for any man to fill.

There is more to LONDON BRIDGES than the intense, action-packed ride, however.  Alex’s personal life—his children’s welfare, his mother’s health, his relationship with Jamilla, and his job—plays an integral part in the book as well.  I don’t want to give away too much to those who haven’t read the previous book, if you haven't you might want to skip the rest of this and finish with the last paragraph,  but the situation with Alex Jr. continues to be top on Alex’s mind.

While I was reading LONDON BRIDGES, I could only imagine what a blockbuster hit this would become if Hollywood were to pick it up.  I wonder if a movie is that far behind?
