NOW IS THE TIME relates the story of a woman, Sarah Colotti, who learns she must have a hysterectomy due to a prolapsed uterus. As Sarah readies herself for a surgery, she meets a wonderful new friend, Meza. Meza encourages Sarah to turn to God to find the courage she needs for all of her life events. NOW IS THE TIME is a highly personal story. Sarah's struggle is something many women face, but few talk about. I have a insider's view on the subject as someone I know has a prolapsed uterus and often a hysterectomy is a last option. As the author briefly mentions, there are many other available options from exercise to a simple procedure in which the ligaments holding the uterus in place are shortened and strengthened. So if you are facing or ever do face this problem, ask for all possible options first. Sarah is a well-developed, likeable character, but throughout the story I hoped one of her doctors would mention anxiety to her, as from my experiences the surgical team should have recognized some of the key signs. She seriously needed to be informed of anxiety, as the majority of her fears and problems seemed to stem from panic/anxiety like symptoms. And another situation, while in the hospital, involving an IV bag putting air bubbles into her veins, when I was in the hospital after having my daughter, I was told that all IV's now have a valve that automatically closes if the IV bag is empty. So I am not sure if this is a new thing or not, but I did find myself questioning the nurse's panicked attitude over the IV bag being empty. Maybe only certain areas have these valves? Of that I am not sure. I also questioned Sarah's attitude towards her sister. They both had an abusive father, but Sarah lets her sister walk all over her. I would have loved for Sarah, or even her husband, to tell the sister to go away. Regardless of my own personal views, I think there is merit in this book. The characters are likeable, the situation is one that most women can relate to, and the story moves at a steady pace. The message of faith is well-portrayed and is woven effortlessly into the pages.
