Dawn Miller does everything her parents say, whether she agrees or not.  Suddenly, she finds herself at odds with not only her Mom and Dad, but also with her longtime friends.  Everyone thinks they know what’s best for Dawn, and she’s sick of it.  When a new girl is transferred into Dawn’s school, she bucks the system and becomes friends with the girl, a Goth.  Dawn’s whole world changes as she takes to skipping classes, missing after school meetings, and hanging out with a boy from the wrong side of town.

SK8ER BOY is a modern day twist on the Romeo And Juliet theme.  Dawn lives among Boston’s upper crust, and her new beau is from the poverty stricken edge of town.  The writing is breezy and light, making it a good way to get teens to read and enjoy the classic tale, yet enjoying it because they can relate!  I found it hard putting SK8ER BOY down and think many teens will find the same satisfaction within the pages.
