It's been interesting watching Debbie Macomber's writing grow from her days as a category romance author.  BACK ON BLOSSOM STREET is the third entry in her series of novels set around a Seattle yarn shop.

The story is told from a few different viewpoints.  Lydia Goetz, the owner of the shop, starts off the story and introduces readers who are new to the series to the key players.  Lydia has settled nicely into her new marriage, and now it is time for her to focus her attention on her sister, Margaret, who doesn't trust the new renter, Collette.  Margaret is convinced that Collette is hiding something and wishes her sister would agree.  Margaret's life is thrown into a whirlwind when her daughter, Julia, is the victim of a carjacking.

The widowed Collette Blake, meanwhile, overhears Margaret and wishes she could tell someone about her pregnancy and affair with her former boss.  As much as she loves her boss, his participation in a sordid transaction led to her fleeing her job and own hometown.  Collette wants to fit in, but her boss's reappearance in her life is proving distracting.

Finally, Alix Townsend is nearing her big day--the day she marries Reverend Jordan Turner.  Unfortunately, Alix knows her own past makes her an unlikely candidate to be a reverend's wife.  As Jordan's mother and the Reese's (people who feel that Alix is like a daughter to them) overrule her on a simple wedding, Alix feels her life slipping out of control.  When she overhears her future mother-in-law announce that Alix is all wrong for Jordan, she begins to wonder if she is just fooling herself.  Can she truly be part of a wedding that is making her unhappy when her fiancé is blind to her needs?

BACK ON BLOSSOM STREET may link to two previous novels, but not for one second did I feel that I was missing something important.  I would like to go back and read more about the characters' lives, but that's something I need to do to understand the storylines found in BACK ON BLOSSOM STREET.

I do suggest having a couple Kleenex in hand.  The story often brought tears to my eyes.  It's not an overly complicated story, instead it is filled with characters that are easy to like or dislike and real life situations to which most people can relate.
