Grace McHeath lives a quiet existence in Hemlock Valley. Her struggles with Epstein-Barr are plenty hard, but a surprise visitor is about to change her perspective. This stranger begins to bring Grace out of her self-imposed shell. Henry Smith hasn’t seen his childhood home since it burned to the ground. However, he isn’t back for a quick visit, Henry has come home to die. Stricken with HIV and AIDS, Henry’s time left is very short. Intending to commit suicide out near the waterfall he knew as a child, Henry instead finds himself being taken into Grace’s home. As his time on earth draws to a close, Grace turns to the one thing that has always brought her solace—telling stories. DANCING WITH THE KING AT CONYERS is an amazing book. It is a poignant tale packed with graceful writing, undeniable emotion, and unexpected doses of laugh out loud humor. The characters are unforgettable--from quiet, stoic Grace who becomes a whole new woman when Henry enters her life to Henry whose own past left him scarred and wounded. I especially enjoyed Grace’s best friend, Cinnamon. Images of a tough Ruby/Renee Zellweger (Cold Mountain) type heroine with more zip and sarcasm came to mind. From the title, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I am delighted that I picked this book up. It truly made me think of all that I have to be thankful for this holiday season!
