Alexandra Miletic is a young Croation journalist who has unwittingly found herself on the trail of a huge story.  Convinced there is a common link in a recent series of bombings, Alex soon finds herself caught between a CIA operative, who is using her to get to the bombers, and Misha, a member of the Black Hand organization, the group responsible for the bombings.

Soon she's on the trail of a man whose past has been covered up by the U.S. Government, a man who is running an illegal arms shipping operation and will do anything to see its success. Alex has got to walk a fine line between abiding by the law and listening to her heart if she wants to get her story... and stay alive!

Carolyn Kvajic's SONS OF THE BLACK HAND was a thrilling read. Not only did the plot keep me glued to the book, but I witnessed the Balkan conflict from a new perspective. I was impressed with Carolyn's portrayal of Alex as a complicated character trying to find her way in a world she doesn't feel she fully belongs to. She's feisty, strong- willed and just a bit unsure of herself. My only criticism of the book is that the plot could have been fleshed out a bit more. I would have liked to have a bit more of the action from the perspective of the CIA agent or Alex's boyfriend.  As is, this is a great book that you can sit down and read over the weekend. I highly recommend it!
