Fed up with the range war between local cattle ranchers and local farmers, schoolteacher Eden Devlin develops a plan to put a stop to the feuding. All she has to do is convince the wives to withhold sex from the their husbands. The desperate husbands have a plan of their own; hire gunman Burke Kerrigan to seduce Eden.   At first it sounds simple, however Sheriff Felton Reeves, while not in love with Eden, has asked her to marry him.  Soon Burke's attention turns fully to preventing that marriage.

As a school teacher, Eden's speech is constantly introducing yet another infrequently used word.  You may learn a thing or two just from her character.  Eden is great with people and her character is one that fits the story line perfectly. Burke seems to be more of a lover than a gunfighter.  This makes for interesting conflict between the prim schoolteacher and Burke.  Felton appears to be unable to solve the problem of rustled cattle, cut fences, and burned houses. but he adds plenty of conflict with his marriage proposal. All in all, SWEETWATER SEDUCTION was a great read, and I'll be looking for more of Joan Johnston's books.
