Chicago paramedic Terri Schuman sees the good and bad in life on a daily basis.  After bringing a seriously injured boy to the emergency room, she happens upon a pregnant, Spanish speaking, frightened woman.  She quickly accesses that the woman is in labor, something attending paramedic should have deduced.  She chews him out and later realizes she needs to apologize to him.

Gabe Andrews, said firefighter and volunteer paramedic, soon becomes Terri’s friend and potential beau.  However, there are other circumstances weighing heavily on Terri’s mind.  After rescuing a young woman from her badly smashed up car, Terri learns the woman is stalking her.  Hesitant to file charges against a seemingly harmless person, Terri soon learns that delayed action on her part could lead to her downfall.  Terri turns to God for guidance with the many problems plaguing her, but is her faith going to be enough?

Sally John does such a tremendous job creating believable settings and genuine characters.  Gabe and Terri are delightful, and you find yourself rooting for them, as they attempt to make sense of their world while following their faith and facing tragedy.  I laughed and cried right along with them.
