She's back! Forensic sculptor Eve Duncan and her love Joe Quinn will do anything to protect their adopted daughter, Jane MacGuire. When a deranged killer targets Jane, they will go to the end of the earth to make sure Jane is safe. Even if in doing so, they risk their own lives. Joe is brought to the scene of a grisly murder in which the victim's face has been removed and fingertips have been burned to prevent recognition. This crime could be the latest in a string of murders that started in England and have moved to the U.S. There he learns that all of the previous victims share a startling resemblance with Jane. Eve confirms his fear when she recreates this latest victim's face -- if Jane were a few years older, this could be her twin. Enter Scotland Yard Inspector Mark Trevor. Trevor has been chasing this madman for years, and he wants him caught. However, Eve and Joe know that something is off. Is Trevor truly who he says he is? Can they trust him as much as Jane seems to? Despite the distractions they face, Eve knows that what matters most is finding this killer and stopping him before he completes his mission -- to kill Jane. She cannot and will not lose another daughter. If you are new to this series, don't worry. Iris Johansen brings all readers up to date with Eve and Joe. Though returning fans will love this new voyage into Eve's life, new readers will find themselves easy following the story and totally hooked! In fact, you'll find yourself craving the other books. It has been a couple of years since the last Eve Duncan thriller. I was impressed at how mature Jane has gotten. Throughout the book, you literally see her transform from a girl to a woman. Iris Johansen does an outstanding job with her characters. I love them all. The thrills are non-stop and keep you on the edge of your seat. What lies ahead in Jane's future is yet to be determined, but you can bet I'll be first in line to find out with 2005's COUNTDOWN.
