Tory Lightfoot has run away from the Worthen Female Academy and has stowed away on the New Hope, a merchant brig. When a pirate ship captures the brig,
Tory takes her chances and divulges the location of the  captain's hidden treasure to the captain of the pirate ship. In return, Tory is provided a berth on the pirate ship. Eventually she is discovered to be a woman but is allowed to serve as a hand on the ship.

What follows is a story of her life aboard the pirate ship, how she manages to survive, and eventually falls in love with one of the pirates. Most of the action takes place in the Caribbean where place names are well known today.

While I found the book to be slow reading, Lisa managed to write a story that flows smoothly, is full of action, and has a plausible story line. I found THE WITCH FROM THE SEA to be worth the time taken to read it.

Editor's note:  I have heard that the book is gaining a huge following with the more mature end of the Young Adult crowd.  If you have a teen who loves books of this nature, you may want to find a copy for Christmas!
