Attorney Ginger Rae Reddy is extremely familiar with Violet Rosada.  Working in Family Law, Ginger helped Violet obtain a restraining order against her abusive boyfriend when Violet was six month's pregnant.  Now Violet is the proud teenage mother to a ten-month old boy, but Teddy, the baby, is in a coma, the victim of shaken baby syndrome.  Ginger must defend Violet against the charges.  Ginger is certain that Violet's ex-boyfriend, the father of the baby, is responsible.

Trying to balance her work with her marriage, Ginger finds herself struggling.  Can she win a case in which the odds are stacked high against her?

Author Jennifer Jefferson has years of experience working as an attorney for a family law practice.  Her novel clearly demonstrates her legal knowledge.  Her writing is detailed, but not overly so.  My biggest problem with this novel came with one of Ginger's quirky traits.  In many chapters, Ginger's character walks up to acquaintances and asks them what they are reading.  At first, this trait came across as incredible human, but by the fourth occurrence, I was sick of reading brief book descriptions.

DEFENDING VIOLET has an airy feel to it.  It isn't taxing brain food, as some legal novels are, but it is an enjoyable read that holds your attention.
