How many romance readers have put down a book that left them questioning why they wasted their time?  With all the books out there, so many today are flat, uninteresting and standard cookie cutter romances.  Well, look no further than Melanie Jackson’s DIVINE FIRE.  What a unique and interesting book!

The hero, Damien Ruthven, is actually Lord Byron, who was given a cure for his epilepsy back in 1816.  The result - a long, long life.  Having to reinvent himself ever so many years to as not to attract attention to himself (never aging), Damien becomes intrigued with a book he is reviewing on Lord Byron.  He sends the author a message - he would like to meet with her to discuss some errors about her book.

Brice Ashton’s biography on Lord Byron contains two errors.  She knows that she shouldn’t give book critics much attention; after all, people have different tastes and you can’t please everyone.  However, there is something compelling about Damien Ruthven’s invitation - compelling enough that she feels she must meet with him.  What she finds out will change her life forever.  Falling in love with Damien is dangerous, especially when someone wants him dead!

The unique twist in this book is that it doesn’t feel like a paranormal, but rather an overview of Lord Byron’s life - like someone doing research on him.  Filled with interesting tidbits, Melanie Jackson is able to blend the fictional modern story with the historical factual one (minus a few liberties to make the book flow).  There is intrigue in the question as to who is trying to murder Damien and why, giving the story an added sense of urgency.  The romance is quick, intense and very sensual between Damien and Brice.  Definitely don’t miss this one if you are wanting something out of the ordinary with a historical kick to it!  I will be anticipating Melanie Jackson next book with impatience.
