GILLELAND POETRY is a collection of poetry and "storoems" (poetic stories) by Harry Gilleland.  The topics cover a wide range of bases from autobiographical matters to the realm of fantasy.  I'm going to share a secret, usually poetry is something I can take or leave.  In this case, I found myself enjoying each page!  While I can't review each poem in the book, I am going to comment on a few.

I laughed with the recollection into last winter's weather titled "The Louisiana Non-Winter of 2005."  Apparently mosquitoes in mid-winter were the norm in Louisiana.  While it was warmer than usual in the north, I'm thankful the only thing flying was snow!

"The Lioness and the Oryx" tells the true tale of a lioness who took to mothering her prey.  Instead of going for the kill, this magnificent creature would nurture and protect her prey at all costs.  Having read that poem, I plan on checking this story out online.

I also shook my head at the inhumanity of some people.  "In Memory of Coco, A Red Dachshund."  Coco was a friendly dog who fell into the wrong hands one day when a group of teenagers set fire to the poor thing.  Instead of running far away from her torturers, Coco kept going back...

Another poem to make me laugh, and I highly agree, was "Those E-Mail Spam Ads."  Just today, I had eight ads slip by my filters because the word very was spelled with three r's.   I have my own special torture in mind for spammers; I just wish they'd get caught!

And I'm going to close this review out with a short poem for everyone to sample.  A simple poem, but it's packed with truth!

"Sometimes meager words suffice.  (Rarely do I heed this advice.)"
