On Thanksgiving, the McClair family gathers around the fireplace waiting for their grandfather to tell a story. Known for his thrilling tales, Grandfather McClair dives into the story of an orphaned peasant boy named Bob. Bob is a curious sort. His adventure begins with his thirst to see a real dragon up close. During his search, he comes across a wizard named Stephen, Merlin’s cousin, who hands Bob a magical sword. The sword, “Bruce”, just happens to be Excalibur’s twin, and with this fine weapon, Bob becomes known as the dragon slayer. While other knights perish, Bob is able to conquer even the grandest of dragons. However, he wants to be taken seriously; he wants to become a knight. His battles are not easy, as surprises lurk around every corner. BOB THE DRAGON SLAYER is more of a spoof of classic knight stories than actual fantasy. Classic tales are retold adding greedy lawyers, absurd politics, and one smart hero who is not to be topped. I wouldn’t suggest this story for your young child, as there are sexual comments and mild violence. However, for your teenager and yourself, if you want a dose of humor tossed into your fantasy, BOB THE DRAGON SLAYER offers an interesting mix.
