Let me just say that cops are my favorite
modern heroes, in real life
and in romances. There’s just something sexy about a man that
defends the weak, protects the innocent and does it for little or no
recognition. So, when I discovered Rachel Gibson’s books, IT MUST BE
LOVE ranks right up there as one of my all time favorite romances, and
it also helped that Joe is a cop.
Joe Shanahan needs to go undercover to investigate an art theft, and his
main target is Gabrielle Breedlove (don’t you just love that name?).
She is everything Joe doesn’t understand, from her auras andyin and
yang, to her psychic mother. Posing as her boyfriend definitely stirs
things up between them, but he knows he can’t fall in love with this
woman he’s supposed to be investigating. Gabrielle can’t believe that
the stalker that had been tailing her is actually a cop. When she
discovers that he is investigating her, she really doesn’t want to get
involved with him. However, the handsome cop posing as her boyfriend
has all this bad karma she can’t help but want to fix. When the job is
done, will there beenough left of her heart to live without him?
This book has a little bit of everything in it. From laugh out loud and
heart tugging scenes to intense sexual tension, Gibson has created two
wonderful characters that will steal your heart. Joe is a tough, down
to earth, no-nonsense kind of cop. He doesn’t understand the
world Gabrielle lives in, nor does he think he wants to. It’s so fun
to watch him constantly get thrown off guard by some quirky thing
Gabrielle does, all the while falling in love with her. Gabrielle is a
strong woman, yet at the same time there is a vulnerability to her that
is
clearly seen in the end. This is not a deep book, but there are issues
that make this relationship really work and a joy to watch progress.
Even after all the other books Gibson has written, IT MUST BE LOVE
still ranks at the top of my favorites pile, followed closely by
TRUE CONFESSIONS (Another cop hero).
