The story begins with a small creature called a Feie, something like a small human, discovering G'lm, an army of darkness who sit in stone waiting for orders to destroy every living thing in their path. The G'lm only take orders from those who posses the ancient shards, stones that resemble precious jewels.
The story follows
a select few characters on their journey to find the ancient shards
before they are found by those who will use them for evil. Cwen of
Aaradan is a very independent woman who is in conflict with her
father because he wants her to become a Guardian, one who protects
those in high power in the seven kingdoms. However, Cwen does not
want to live by the restrictions that Guardians must live by. Talin
is Cwen's very dear and trusted friend. He travels with Cwen
wherever she goes. He is the only person that Cwen can truly
trust. Caen is a thief that they meet very early in their journey.
At first, Cwen wants to kill him, but Talin and the others convince
her that there are some things that Caen can do to get information
and places that he can go where he will be welcome and they will
not. They agree to let him travel with them. Although there are other books in this series that I have not read yet, I think that THE WREKENING: AN ANCIENT MIRRORS TALE is very good. I plan on reading the other books so that I can familiarize myself with other characters met along their journey. It is very exciting reading about how each shard is found and the different obstacles they must go through to get the shards. There is a constant thrill in the book because once one shard is found, they have to start their investigation into the location of the next shard from having no idea how they will find out where the next one is located. |
