LOVESEEKERS is not a new book, instead it is a pair of Ms. Garlock's older romances "Sing Softly To Me" and "Gentle Torment" dating back to the 1980s. The novellas are slightly dated with the whole "man" is king principle, but they are enjoyable nonetheless. In "Sing Softly To Me," Tom Clary risks everything to bring Beth Marshall from Minnesota to Wyoming. Tom has been sharing his home with Beth's older sister, and now the older sister really needs Beth. Unfortunately, Tom has broken her heart before, and Beth vowed never to trust him again. Lindy Williamson fled Texas for the wilds of Alaska in hopes of escaping her husband, Jake's, clutches. Now Jake's returned and he is determined to bring Lindy back into his life forever in "Gentle Torment." It is fascinating to read Dorothy Garlock's earlier works. However, times have changed, and the rough words, brutal, heated kisses that leave a woman bleeding, and threats to severely beat or spank a woman left me feeling cold. While that was common in that era's romances, I am accustomed to stronger women and men who refrain from any verbal threats. I do still recommend LOVESEEKERS, as a means of seeing how Ms. Garlock got started. It is also interesting to go back and see just how far women have come in the past twenty years.
