Okay, stop and think about a couple of things. First, if you ever watched the popular sitcom "Seinfeld", you'll probably remember the show about masturbation, "The Contest". Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer brought masturbation to the forefront of many conversations following that show. Second, think about the things you learned about in sex-ed (aka health). I clearly remember two things in health--how big a tampon can swell up when dropped into a vase and the fake breast that our teacher passed around so that we could all play "feel the lump." Throughout all of my sex ed classes in middle school and high school, the actual act of intercourse was never mentioned unless it was a NEVER have sex until you're married phrase because sex equaled pregnancy which in turn equaled shame and humiliation. Thankfully, times are changing. With this change comes a frank look at orgasms for women. A PIECE OF CAKE is an in-depth guide into getting the most out of your sexual relations. The authors, founders of CAKE, do not shy from any topic. There is a bit of an anatomy lesson, plenty of Q&A letters, and honest advice. Kudos to them for having the courage to speak their minds! One of the saddest things I ever encountered occurred one day when my forty-something co-worker asked me if I knew what an orgasm felt like. She'd never had one! Little did I know at the time that this is a very common occurrence. CAKE sets out to change that. Instead of being told that sex is dirty and shouldn't be discussed, Melinda Gallagher and Emily Kramer discuss everything from getting what you want from your partner to masturbation. No faking allowed! I know there are going to be a wide array of people who see CAKE as one of those taboo books to avoid. I do, however, hope that secretly they'll give it a chance. The authors have a lot to teach and most readers will be surprised when even they learn a thing or two. |
