In the latest in her Chintz and China Mystery series, A HARVEST OF BONES, Galenorn returns us to the mystery and mayhem packed life of Emerald O'Brien, tea room owner and resident psychic of Chiqetaw, Washington. Emerald doesn't mean to always end up at the center of the heart of darkness, but she has an uncanny knack for finding trouble. Initially, Emerald's life seems right on track. Her tea room is doing well and her long-time love, Joe, has decided to buy the tract of land next to hers so that they can enlarge her house. Finally, it seems that Joe, Em, and her children will be one big happy family. What could possibly go wrong? Of course, with Emerald it's only a matter of time before trouble comes knocking on her door--this time in the guise of a door to a hidden room under Joe's new land. Joe and Emerald's curiosity get the better of them (mostly Joe's) and they open the door. Only the "room" is actually a door to another dimension which unleashes some rather nasty paranormal beings into Chiqetaw. In addition, Emerald's cat goes missing and is replaced by a spirit cat--who has a mystery all its own. Now that Emerald has opened her own Pandora's Box, will she be able to close it again? Or, is the cat literally out of the bag for good? As usual, Ms. Galenorn delivers a great mystery. As with the previous books in her Chintz and China Mystery series, A HARVEST OF BONES offers dynamic and utterly compelling characters, a satisfying mystery, a little romance, and a great deal of humor. Emerald, Joe, and the other citizens of Chiqetaw are as interesting as ever and Ms. Galenorn's writing is just as bright. Imagine Jan Karon with a paranormal twist and you have it! This is a great book and cat-lovers will find this particular story even more endearing. This is a perfect book for a cold winter's night. Just settle in with some cocoa, a good quilt, and A HARVEST OF BONES. It will surely take your mind off the winter cold and set your feet on a path of adventure and mystery! |
