The sixth book in Diana Gabaldon's famed Outlander series arrives in stores today. I absolutely loved it, but I do think recommending it to romance fans isn't enough--historical fans will want to devour A BREATH OF SNOW AND ASHES. While the Outlander series took the romance world by storm, the books weave history into the story with a precision that few authors manage. Diana Gabaldon manages to bring you back to each time period--you can practically taste, hear and sound the era through her novels. They may not be quick reads, but that's don't matter, just be prepared for an incredible sensory voyage along the way. Jamie and Claire find themselves facing a very uncertain destiny with the beginnings of the American Revolution in 1773. Their home, Fraser's Ridge is recommended as a possible location for a number of Highlanders who have emigrated to America. Jamie isn't certain he can support new families and is hesitant to agree. It isn't long before he learns the true reason for Major MacDonald's visit. With the country's growing unrest, Governor Martin has asked Major MacDonald to try to persuade Jamie to become an Indian Agent--to attempt to soothe increasing hostilities between settlers and Indians. A major problem exists of which only a few are aware. Claire has seen an article from 1776 that tells of both her and Jamie's deaths in a house fire. They only have three years to live... This is the basic premise to A BREATH OF SNOW AND ASHES. The book is beautifully written and grabs you from the start. It does take a while to work through the layers of the novel, but finding out if Jamie and Claire live or die makes it well worth every minute!
