At birth, Tony DeBlois was not expected to live. He was three months early, he weighed a mere one pound and nine ounces, and he required masses of oxygen to stay alive. However, this miracle baby had an amazing will to live. Though the excessive oxygen left him blind, Tony improved by leaps and bounds and lasted when many said he wouldn’t. In his childhood, it became apparent that Tony was not like other children. He was, in fact, autistic, but he also had incredible skills musically—savant syndrome. (Think Rainman, but with a knack for all aspects of music.) SOME KIND OF GENIUS tells the story of Tony’s birth, life and musical talents. SOME KIND OF GENIUS is a fascinating novel, especially if the movie Rainman brought tears to your eyes. In many ways, Tony is not unlike Dustin Hoffman’s character. The will to succeed is the same. Told by both Tony’s mother, Janice, and author Antonia Felix, the book captures the essence of Tony through recollections, interviews and family history. If you want a biography that isn’t the same old, same old, definitely pick up a copy of SOME KIND OF GENIUS.
