The divorce rate in the world is staggering, and authors Joel and Kathy Davisson found themselves heading down a similar path after Joel had an affair.  However, the couple decided to sit back and look at things, which led them to truly re-evaluate their marriage and what they needed to do in order to save it, hence their book, THE MAN OF HER DREAMS THE WOMAN OF HIS.

THE MAN OF HER DREAMS THE WOMAN OF HIS takes a spiritual, honest look at making the most of your marriage.  The authors incorporate their personal experience in rebuilding their own crumbling marriage.  Most of the principles and advice within are concepts I truly believe in, and I feel most couples would benefit from this book.

I do have mixed emotions on a couple of issues presented in the book, however.  First is adultery; with AIDS so prevalent in today’s world, I have mixed emotions on just how willing I would be to take back a spouse who had risked my life.  I know this topic is open for debate, but to me having an affair is like playing Russian roulette, and I’m not sure I’d welcome a spouse back with open arms.  However, until I’ve actually been in that situation, I honestly don’t know how I’d react.

My other issue is more personal.  My friend’s first marriage led to a divorce, and I saw no other path for her to take.  The day he showed her a gun was the day she needed to get out for her own safety.  Thankfully, he never did use the gun, though he did wreck her car with a baseball bat.  My own opinion is that if a man or woman is dangerous, you are most certainly better off without him or her.  Now she is happily married to a man I truly feel is perfect for her, and the arrival of their son this winter made for a true happily-ever-after ending to her crummy first marriage.  You can’t judge a book by its cover and some people just are better off out of your life.  My own belief is that God didn’t intend for her to stay in a life threatening relationship—especially when he had a beautiful baby boy waiting in the wings.

Plenty of biblical reference is used to get the authors’ points across, so you have to expect this to be aimed towards Christian readers.  Even so, those who are less devout will still find plenty of useful advice within.  Every topic you would expect is covered from “after kid blues” to infidelity.  Those of us with children know how demanding they can be, leaving little time for “mom and dad” to be alone.  The sections covering that aspect are definitely worth reading and should be mandatory for any soon-to-be parents!

Whatever stage your relationship is in, you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy of Joel and Kathy's book and see if there is room for improvement.  As the book comes with a 100% guarantee, what can you possibly have to lose?
