Though WORKING LIKE DOGS might not have the appeal needed to reach huge audiences, it is a title that this reviewer feels should reach many hands for better understanding of what a service dog does and what is involved in working with one of these amazing dogs.  WORKING LIKE DOGS is a guide to owning, training, and loving a service dog.

The guide opens with a foreward from actress Betty White and a history into service dogs throughout the years, including federal laws that apply to these dogs.  Though I do not have a service dog nor do I know anyone who does, I found the listing of commands that all dogs must learn to be incredibly helpful.  If all dog owners taught their dogs these commands, I can only imagine how much different life could be, especially in my area where pet owners feel it is fine to go to work while leaving the dogs outside all day.  (Invisible Fencing does not work for all dogs!)

Everything is covered in this colorful guidebook--loads of pictures are included.  From how to feed a dog so that it is maintaining its proper weight to handling the death of a cherished pet, no topic is left uncovered.  Though WORKING LIKE DOGS is geared towards those needing a service dog, I think we all could learn a number of valuable lessons from it.
