Angus is a Scottish soldier in the British army.  He has three months left before he can resign his commission and two things happen.  One, he goes to London on leave and meets Rachel, a fiery red-head, all of sixteen and determined to run away from her mean guardian and back to her brother in Georgia.  Two, the Revolutionary War breaks out.  After realizing that love at first sight is a reality, the two promise themselves to each other.  Angus puts Rachel on a ship to the states and returns to his post – only to find out that it might take him longer to be with the woman of his dreams than he first thought! 

What follows is an extraordinary story of two people going through incredible hardships, but believing enough in their love that nothing will stop them from finally being together.  I loved this story.  I found it compelling and interesting; and although I do not know much about the time period, very believable.  I will certainly be looking to read Cheryl’s other books!
