My hat is off to Dan Danko and Tom Mason for a side-splitting series that I am positive will become a keep on my son's shelf. He is not the easiest in the world to please when it comes to books, but humor is key to winning him over. Thirteen-year-old Guy Martin lives every child's fantasy. Due to one incredible talent, he can run at speeds of 92.7 miles per hour. Before he can become a superhero, he must work as a sidekick to some of the world's top superheroes at the League of Big Justice. His "sponsor" is not necessarily his first-choice, Pumpkin Pete, but at least he is a sidekick. When the Brotherhood of Rottenness team up to battle the League of Big Justice, Guy (aka Speedy) must use his speed and cunning to save his friends! There is one big rule, no one else can know about his superhero duties. Not even the object of his desires, Prudence Cane, who has her eyes set on Guy's adversary, Charisma Kid. With antagonists such as Le Poop heading up a wacky cast of bad guys, there is no question in my mind that fans of the Captain Underpants' series will adore SIDEKICKS. The humor, ornate list of characters, and hilarious dilemmas are sure to appeal to young readers. And as a grown-up, I have to say I don't plan on missing any of this series. If they made a cartoon series from these books, I'd tune in regularly!
