Cally Lazar is an intuitive energy healer who has a habit of stumbling into trouble.  Cally and her beau, southern charmer Roy Beaumont, are attending her family Thanksgiving meal when one of the guests, Aunt Daphne, collapses.  When Aunt Daphne dies after being rushed to the hospital, members of the family become convinced that her death was no accident.  Aunt Daphne’s slow death by cancer was hard on her closest family members – had one of them taken pity on her and poisoned her, to end her suffering… or perhaps to rush along the distribution of her estate?  The family members huddle together, scared and suspicious, trying to solve the mystery before somebody else winds up poisoned, too.

Cally’s unique position of intuitive energy healer leads her down avenues of exploration different than most sleuths’.  The haunting death of her parents, when Cally was a teenager, keeps surfacing as Cally tries to determine what’s happening in the present, and why.  The quirky family members add some amusing twists to the storyline as the family’s haphazard investigation proceeds.

Although the melodrama is a bit overdone at times and the dialogue occasionally comes across as contrived, the unique premise of Cally’s profession as an energy healer may interest some readers.  The book would appeal to mystery lovers and fans of Agatha Christie, who happens to be a favorite author of Daniels’.
