SAKS & VIOLINS is the 22nd installment of the
"Bed-And-Breakfast Mystery Series" that begin in 1991 and is still going
strong. The brainchild of prolific writer Mary Daheim who originally
started with romance novels, such as 1983's LOVE'S PIRATE, this series
soon garnered extreme momentum and today is one of the most recognized
mystery series of the genre.
SAKS & VIOLINS spins the tale of Judith McMonigle Flynn who tries to
keep her bed and breakfast afloat even though times are tough and her
reputation of averaging a corpse a season is preceding her. Thus she
sees little harm in permitting a symphony violinist to rent out her
facility for an evening get together with friends and family. When some
of the guests rent out rooms, she is glad to have the business! Yet soon
the grim reaper appears, though not in her establishment at first - he
makes a first appearance down
the street and only slowly but gradually works his way into the bed and
breakfast. Soon the death count rises, the snide remarks of fellow bed
and breakfast owners culminate, and the forensics team once again
follows an already beaten path to her front door. Adding to the mix of
mayhem is a colorful cast of artistic characters where each is a bit
more eccentric than the next. Will Judith solve this one, too, before
her reputation is sunk and her husband takes to permanent ice fishing?
SAKS & VIOLINS takes its rightful places with the other bed and
breakfast mystery books; long time fans of the series will snicker at
the inside jokes while newbies will feel their appetite to read more by
Ms. Daheim thoroughly whetted. A delightful mystery, this book is a
quick read that you will not want to put down, and if you are looking
for a great book, this is most certainly a serious contender!
