A CHARMED DEATH is the second installment of the Bewitching Mystery Series by Madelyn Alt. Living in Northeast Indiana, she credits her fascination with the paranormal to first hand experience for which there was no explanation that satisfied her avid curiosity. Born in beautiful Landstuhl, Rheinland Pfalz and having traveled all over the globe, Ms. Alt adds wistfulness to her written word that only those who have traveled extensively are able to integrate in their writings without trying.

A CHARMED DEATH once again permits the reader to meet up with the N.I.G.H.T.S., the Northeast Indiana Ghost Hunting & Tracking Society, which now includes Maggie O’Neill who is still testing the waters of the magick and spirit-filled world to which she has become introduced. Working as a sales clerk, Maggie meets up with a group of teens that will add trouble to her life in short order. The rich beauty is murdered, the pensive Goth “borrows” that for which she has no money to pay, and adding to the mix of confusion is a sordid undercurrent of illicit sex and elements of witchcraft. Complicating Maggie’s life are her meddling mother who would like nothing more than for her to step into her sister’s footsteps, officer Tom Fielding who could have her heart but seems to need a roadmap to figure it out, and of course darkly handsome Marcus Quinn, witch and ghost hunter, who is attached to her good friend – or is he? Sleuthing the teen’s murder as much to appease the spirit world as to come to grips with the undercurrents of her quiet town, Maggie is soon in more danger than she can handle.

A CHARMED DEATH is the kind of mystery that has a delightful twist which sets it apart from the rest the genre has to offer. A mystery, but without following the seemingly tried and true formula, a bit of chick lit, but without alienating the men, a dash of the paranormal, but without causing the straight laced reader to freak, a wee bit of romance, but keeping it G, and an overall fast paced action that grips a hold of the reader and does not let go, is perhaps the best way to describe Ms. Alt’s writing. This is the kind of mystery that will fascinate you and not let you put it down until you make it to the very last page…and then you will go on the hunt for more writings by Ms. Alt. A great read!
