When
Jack Allen, an entry-level computer analyst working in his fourth floor
cubicle at the NSA, receives a phone call from his boss, little does he
realize what is in store. Jane Marshall, the daughter of the President,
is having problems with her computer and Jack is sent to fix the
problem. On arrival at Jane's apartment, Jack is subjected to a search
by the Secret Service agents on duty, but Jack does not let this bother
him.
The problem is diagnosed to be the "Jitter Bug" virus which
has a nasty habit of scrambling file names. While waiting for the
virus scan to process, Jane asks Jack about his work and they begin a
friendship that the news media is quick to exploit. Jane sees Jack as a
sensitive, caring man and wishes for the friendship to develop further.
Jack, on the other hand, would like to become more than just a friend,
but the Presidency is a deterrent.
As the story progresses, Jack and Jane become great friends and Jack is
introduced to the President and the First Lady. Jack is code named
"Wizard" by the Secret Service because of his friendship with
Jane. Be sure you have a supply of tissues handy by the time you near
the end of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and will be looking
for more of Robert Allison's works in the future. All lovers of romance
will want to read THE FIRST SUITOR.
