"This I believe..."
simple words that launched a popular NPR program in which celebrities
and everyday people broadcast their response. THIS I BELIEVE is a
compilation of some of the more poignant and thought-provoking
responses.
I found myself tearing up regularly. Greg Chapman's response about
growing up in an environment that was anti-gay after realizing that he
was gay made my eyes water. Author Isabel Allende's poignant response
about the death of her grown daughter also brought me to tears. Other
entries made me laugh or nod my head in agreement. Magician Penn
Jillette delves into a topic that many will find debatable: "This I
believe--I believe there is no god." His reasoning is incredibly sound.
Other entries come from an African immigrant named Dr. Pius Kamau who is
faced with a troublesome dilemma in the ER. A white supremacist is
brought in covered in blood, but the man refuses to allow a black man to
touch him. Elvia Bautista talks about how a disagreement between gangs
led to her brother's death.
Some entries are from the original program and others are brand new.
Either way, the messages are clear and powerful.
