London, February 1854 – Four friends meet to propose a tontine. All four of them are not yet married and the tontine will be won by the last man to remain single. Just to make things interesting, the sum of on shilling each is to be paid into the prize. Oh yes, a bottle of very fine Cognac is also included. It should be well aged at the end of the contest. The tontine will consist of The Honorable Nigel Cavendish, the only son of Viscount Cavendish; Oliver Leighton, Earl of Norcroft; Gideon Pearsall, Viscount Warton; and Daniel Sinclair, an American. The four men have met to toast the wedding of their friend, Jonathon Effington, the Marquis of Helmsley, and Oliver’s cousin, Fiona. By now it should be apparent to the reader that one of these four men will be married by the end of the book, but which one? A LITTLE BIT WICKED is the first of a four book series by Victoria Alexander entitled “The Last Man Standing”. The next book in the series, “What A Lady Wants” is due out shortly and I’ll be looking forward to see which of the remaining men is the next to marry.
